K-3 Students have access to SmartyAnts – a powerful word building and reading preparation program. Students complete an assessment when they first open the program, and it places your child where they need the most work. Fully aligned to the Phonological Awareness Literacy screening program (PALS), it guides students through all the sounds and combinations used in 1,500 words should know to be good readers. Incorporating word study and fluency, the program uses instruction, practice, games, and the ability for students to record themselves reading.

The curriculum covers letter recognition, letter sounds, long and short vowel sounds, consonant blends, and consonant digraphs in Kindergarten. In first grade content involves r-controlled vowels, ending blends, vowel digraphs, diphthongs, compound words, prefixes and suffixes, contractions, and possessives. The second grade brings in authentic literature and non-fiction. The topics and skills for second & third grade include reader's theater, predicting, inferring, drawing conclusions, attention to detail, questioning, and fluency. Specific details are outlined in the Program Content link at the top.

Students are rewarded for completing lessons, meeting goals, and being the "Ant of the Week." Ants of the week earn certificates and prizes for their progress and work in capital and lower case letters, number of new words, number of stories, chapters, and science books.
